The Story Behind The Photos of Alaska Farms

Photos of Alaska Farms, Farmer milks cow, Palmer, Alaska

If you are anything like me, then you know that there is nothing more beautiful than seeing photos of Alaska farms, fresh farm produce or fields. They are addictive, especially photos of Alaska’s farms and ranches.

When I first met Stephen Nowers, I was working for the Alaska Farmland Trust and had gotten this really fun grant to help highlight and promote Alaska Farms. I heard through the grape vine that Stephen did freelance photogrpahy and videography and that Alaska agriculture was a lifelong passion of Stephen’s. We talked over the phone, he sent some of the other work, and I was hooked. The videos that he developed then were heartfelt, thoughtful, and captured the beauty of the farms that I so loved.

Stephen Nowers didn’t stop there. What he calls his “Labor of Love” has driven him to continue to take photos of Alaska farms across the Matanuska and capture the intimate moments of farming in Alaska that have rarely been captured elsewhere.

When I was developing the website, I knew I had to use his photos. After a blurred exchange of texts and phone calls, Stephen graciously provided me with the use of his photos to help me tell the story of the Matanuska Farms in Alaska. Again, Stephen showed his stripes. If you like the photos that you see on this website please consider checking out his full collection  and purchase his photos from him directly.

P.S. I would be remiss in not mentioning the other photographers features on this website including the wonderful farmers Michelle Church and Katie Sunderland who also provided photos of their farms and farm life. You can check out their farm photos here.
